Today I presented my rules and procedures right off the bat in both my classes. I had the rules on a powerpoint, and I had the students write them down and I explained them one at a time. Then I went through a cue with them to let them know I am ready for them to focus on me so we can start class. I practiced it with them a few times and I think it going to work well. What I am doing is I raise my hand and start counting backwards from five. I count off 5 4 3 I don't say 2 or 1 when I get to 2 everyone should be focused on me and when I get to 1 all eyes on me and we are ready to get into the lesson. It went really well in both classes. I feel that I can really get their attention. The rest of the day was good I had there attention and I felt that I earned some respect as a teacher today. I know that I will still have to reinforce this often but I have a place to start.
