Back at school at last. It felt like an eternity since we have been at school. I did get power restored this afternoon, so things are just about getting back in order. School went well today. The kids were ready to be back at school, although some still did not have power. They were ready to get back to work. There is one student who has posed himself as a challenge to all the teachers. They have all had about all they can take of him. I have had a chance to get to know him a little bit and I want to think that I am making a connection with him. We will see how it works when I have him in the classroom situation. I was trying to base this on the experiment discussed in Ch. 2 of the Love and Logic book. I think this book will be valuable in establishing a teaching style that is caring and sincere. I realize that you have to mix this with strong classroom management skills. I know I have so much to learn and am anxious to get going. This ice storm has really stalled everything out, I am going to be observed this Friday and have yet to teach a structured lesson yet. I think I will be ok but I may not be as good as I could have been if I would have had a couple weeks under my belt.
