Wednesday, March 11

I started my second placement this week. I have moved from 7th grade Social Studies, to 8th grade Science. I have had to really shift gears in the last couple of days to get used to these adjustments. The one major difference that I can see between the 7th and 8th grades is the maturity level. Most of the 8th graders are more well behaved than the 7th graders. They are also more respectful and more cooperative. I was told when I started in the 7th grade that this was possibly the worst group of 7th graders in recent history. So that was something to look forward to, but that is all behind me now. To discuss the resources in the community to help me teach, there are several. First, there is an industrial park. with several chemical plants near the town where the school is. There are several opportunities to aquire resources or schedule guest speakers or even take field trips to view the plants. This is especially helpful for the chemistry part of science. Also I am closely associated with Ag Extension and 4-H agents in the county where I live. These provide great resources when dealing with biology and life science. These along with the library can be useful and viable resources to enhance the knowledge base to help in the creation of interesting lesson plans to help me become a better teacher.
